I sat one evening and watched as a news crew filmed the aftermath of a tornado that struck west Moore Oklahoma. someone asked the question "How could someone stay in an area like this?" I remember tears swelling in my eyes at the image of good people losing everything, everything but each other in a town they loved! I wrote the song in the next hour and had a friend, Anderson Braun play the piano, and passionately sing it. He helped re-write and arrange the song

About the artist

I'm a drummer turned guitar player in the last two years. I wanted to leave a real legacy for my four children. I couldn't be more blessed to leave my voice and my stories. Anything after that would be icing on the cake. Never surrender your dreams, cause even if they don't all come true the journey will be more than enough!!

Lyrics

Hometown Oklahoma
Eb
I have heard some people say
Bb
there’s something wrong with people like me.
Eb
We’d have to be insane to stay
Bb
there wasn’t much the twister didn’t see.
F
They’ve started talking ‘bout this place
Eb Bb
like it’s a memory, are they too blind to see?

Chorus
Gm Eb
You wonder how I could stay right here forever
Gm Eb Bb F
You wonder why I would never want to leave
Gm Eb
I’ll never trade for what you say is better
Bb/F F Bb
Hometown Oklahoma is the place I want to be

Mister we won’t hang our hats,
We’re coming back and we’re not backing down.
With timber, nails and love like stone
Night and day we’ll rebuild this town.
No amount of wind and rain could wash it all away
All you need is a little faith.

Chorus

(Bridge)

Dm Gm
Local news said EF5
Eb Bb/D
and would’ve won if not for pride.
Gm Eb C7/E F F7/Eb
For sale or not it’s all been sold.
Bb/D Eb
There isn’t any time to grieve,
Gm F Eb
if they’re gone they didn’t leave.
Bb/F F Eb F Eb/G F/A Bb
Empty hands leave room to hold.

Danny wasn’t new to this,
he said he’d rather die than lose the farm.
I guess he got his final wish,
we found him in his woman’s loving arms.
(But) When you’re standing here,
you’re on solid ground.
No we’ll never leave this town.

Chorus
