Immediate need for Boston based Ruby On Rails developer

Musicxray.com aims to provide the music industry with the tools it needs to be successful in the present and in the future. Our core business at this stage is providing artists with access to top music industry executives. We use technology that automatically matches songs (think pandora) to other songs based on musical characteristics. This makes it possible for a music industry executive to upload songs that they like and have artists that produce similar music, be notified that the executive is potential interested in their work. We would like to use this technology more effectively as well as increase the overall product offering to our customers. We are a well funded company looking to make a dent in the world. If you love music and coding we are likely to have a position for you.

We are looking for the following qualities in a candidate:

1. Incredibly smart, we value intelligence more than any other characteristic.
2. Ability to work in a team.
3. Friendly without being a pushover.
4. Able to explain complex ideas to management in a way that makes sense.
5. Self starter, you work cause you love it and your passionate, it’s just a bonus that you get paid to do it.
6. Love using and learning new technologies (NoSql, TDD, BDD, Restful API’s)

The ideal candidate will have most if not all of the following:

1. Excellent Ruby On Rails programming skills
2. 4+ years computer programming experience
3. 2+ years with Ruby On Rails (if not, be prepared to go on crash course)
4. Excellent HTML,CSS, Javascript based UI design and development skills
5. B.S. In engineering of any sort. Computer systems is preferred but not required
6. Must be local to the Boston area. We do outsource some of our development, but at the moment we are trying to build a team in boston.

The following things would be bonus points for anyone possessing them:

1. Working knowledge of debian based server administration.
2. Familiarity with all of amazon web services. On musicxray.com we use atleast 7 of them.
3. Knowledge of mail server setup and configuration.
4. Ability to program flash (although with html5 this is less and less important)
5. Knowledge of other languages. In particular objective-c (iphone) or java (android)
