Craig Beardwood, an award-winning Songwriter, is a craftsman of songs and a student of songwriting. He believes that songwriting is not an inspiration business, it is a craft – it’s the technique supporting the talent. As his songwriting hero, Harry Chapin, stated, “I work hard – I edit, I struggle, I throw away and I resurrect.” This sentiment also applies to Craig. He believes in the value of reviewing and revising and that good songs aren’t just written – they’re rewritten.
Craig has been writing songs for well over 40-years. When I write, the lyrics and the melody come simultaneously, but I don’t have a particular genre in mind. I know my songs aren’t going to be ‘heavy metal’, ‘hard-driving rock’ or ‘rap’ and I hope they’re going to be more than ‘pop’ or ‘middle-of-the-road’ (MOR). It’s only in recent years that I feel my songs are best suited for the country, or country-rock genre. This is because of the situations I write about, the words I use and the descriptive scenes I try to convey within my lyrics.
