One day I was using my sister's car when I ran into a friend I knew from a job I worked at back in high school. I simply offered her a ride home and we talked and I dropped her off.

However, the conversation on this record is fictional. It never happened with this girl. Instead, for this song, I decided I'd be speaking with a made up character named, Lya Scott, who "embodies" my friends from high school. Now, they often ask me things like "Why don't you ever hit us up?" Where you been at?" "Why don't you come around or hang out with us?"

So, in short, I answer those questions in a conversational flow as if they were the ones in the car with me but in the form of Lya Scott, the "fictional" character.

About the artist

Emerging onto the scene from Boston, MA, artist/producer Clark Sage began his career as a result of a 9th grade science project. Now, at 22, he creates music that derives from experiences and moments of his life. Any set of circumstances may inspire different feelings in his music such as chill or jumpy or moving. The final product, however, is music that's original and memorable. His album "The Modest Anomaly" is a prime example, ultimately leading his track "On The Road" to be featured on Pitchfork. For him, all steps are intended. Everything is envisioned. The future of Clark Sage is already written.

Lyrics

Chorus:
Now I ain't seen you minute, you could ride in my car.
It's not a problem. I just don't want you to make it evolve.
Let me tell you "sorry" if I said I would call
cuz let's be honest, I just won't until I figured it all.

Let's be honest, I just won't until I figured it all.
(I) know it sounds like I mean it as "I'm bigger than y'all."
But what I found is I'm needed on a different revolt.
So coming 'round's off my limits 'til I figured it all.

Verse 1:
Let's break the silence, I see you peek from the side.
Just go ahead and just ask me, I know you speak from your mind.
She tell me "you mean, like, really?" I tell her "really...it's fine"

"Okay, why do you run? Why do you always: hide
never speak on your feelings, never come to surprise,
never show up at functions we plan to keep us in ties?
Do you even like us or was we a reason to move the time?”

So I tell her "I love my friends, that's including you and your tribe.
Just tryna make life a blessing and easy for all who try."
Then she tells me "You can't save everyone. Characters don't survive,
and then often, the most important so pump your brakes on your tires."

So I tell her "Yeah, I feel you but do you stand by that line?
Cuz there's oil in all these cars and electric isn't designed.
Cuz there's people that won't allow it (as) long as they're seeing $igns.
Then they sold us water in bottles like what you got on your side and we buy..."

Chorus:
Since I ain't seen you minute, you could ride in my car.
It's not a problem. I just don't want you to make it evolve.
Let me tell you "sorry" if I said I would call
cuz let's be honest, I just won't until I figured it all.

Verse 2:
She said "That's deep, yeah, I understand where you coming from.
I heard a masked man in the news similar merits son."
(I'm) hoping in my mind she don't make the likely comparison.
So I just walk the line like "Me too, I hope he finish 'em.

Especially on matters of school. I mean, he right and it's true.
They made sure two of all those years we learn some shit we won't use.
And, yet, that bill's coming through."
She interjects "And, if I die, they'll pass that shit to my "two" (child)."
I'm like "I know... It's a fluke.

So when you ask why I don't show for the crew, it's nothing personal - I'm out for the 'new' (world).
I hope you vouch for it too."
"Jabari, I do but that you mean you gotta start with the too"
But she don't know I'm "the" dude.
