About the artist
Seven years in the making, Kjae and Traxx also know as 2 Grown Kidz are caught in between the worlds of their youth and their manhood. Together since teenagers, Kjae and Traxx have redefined their idea of swagg and plan to change the worldview on hip-hop, r&b, and pop music. These 2 Grown Kidz prove in their music that it is possible to combine rap and song together to make it one. What Kjae and Traxx do makes perfect sense in today’s music landscape and they possess all the right ingredients to take their message all the way, including musicianship, clever lyrics, humor, and a knock out stage show. The time has come for 2 Grown Kidz to make their mark and garner the attention they deserve.
The founding member of the former group S1, Kjae has been at it since the age of seventeen. The group began as a five-member r&b singing group and ended up a three-man r&b/hip hop group. Summer of 2008 promised to be the start of major things to come for the trio as they made their way through as finalists at the auditions of MTV’s Top Pop Group and ended up a contestant on the reality show. The show was a spin off of America’s Best Dance Crew. This was crazy exposure for the struggling hip hoppers, believing that they had finally arrived; they prepared themselves for the ride of their lives. Finally, America would get a taste of the group’s cool blend of smooth r&b and hip-hop. Unfortunately, it was not to be. The network cancelled the show after only five episodes. Grateful for the opportunity, the group went back to the studio and got right back on the grind.
Seven years in the industry has taught these boys a lot and a lot has transpired over the last seven years in the music business. “We’ve seen the industry shift a complete 180° and in that transformation, we’ve learned a lot about the business aspects of the game”, says Kjae. “We’ve always written our own material good or bad. Our managers forced us to write songs even when we didn’t want to or believe we could. They believed in us before we believed in ourselves. It took a while, but we kept at it. We really learned the meaning of the concept learning curve.” Now, a duo and full-blown writers, arrangers and producers, these 2 Grown Kidz are approaching the industry with a new vision. They have their sights set on making a name for themselves and their production company, fondly known in their camp as Sharp Club Productions. The Sharp Club (School of Hip Hop, R&B and Pop) is the classification of a new wave of sound and the best is yet to come.
Always setting the trends and not following them, 2 Grown Kidz catch has always been about the music, which they describe as infectious, feel good, and fresh. When they hit the stage, they make audiences get up out their seats and party to music they not only hear, but music they feel. The complete package, 2 Grown Kidz is a self-contained entity.
