Frequently asked questions...
How much does Music Xray cost?
- It does not cost anything to create Music Xrays.
- However, other fees for value-ad services may apply.
Why is Music Xray only 400 pixels wide?
- The width of a Music Xray enables the entire site (www.musicxray.net) to be embedded within other websites.
- We are also building additional web applications that process Music Xrays. Stay tuned, when you see our new applications, you will better understand why we created a site that is only 400 pixels wide.
I am having trouble uploading an image or a song?
- If you are using FireFox on a Macintosh, please try temporarily switching to Safari.
How do I embed a Music Xray into my website or blog?
- MySpace and Facebook are not supported at this time.
- Copy the embed code (found in the Share Module).
- Paste the embed code into a page that accepts HTML.
- You can adjust the height to a number that is less than 5,000 pixels. However, a scroll bar may appear when multiple modules are opened simultaneously by your users.
Can you advise me on images (best practices)?
- The ideal image size is 400 pixels by 400 pixels.
- 400 pixels by 400 pixels will work best in the new applications we are creating.
- You should choose an image that is directly related to (tells the story of) your song.
- When people are searching for songs, visual indicators (such as the image) generate clicks to the play button.
- You should not use the same image for all your songs. Think about someone (a music supervisor for example) viewing search results. The song image is the only clue searchers initially have as to what your song is about. A picture of you does not tell the story of your song.
- You can find great stock images at iStockPhoto and at DreamsTime.
- You easily crop images at SnipShot.com
Can I change the background color of my Music Xray?
- For example: If you wanted to change the background color behind your Music Xray to solid black, you would append ?bgcolor=000000 (000000 is the color black) to the end of the URL for your Music Xray (Examine the URL in this example).
- Google the phrase ‘Color Codes’ to find the codes for more colors. You have to leave the color parameter (example: ?bgcolor=000000) on the URL if you want the color to remain the color of your choice.
- If you have embedded your Music Xray into a site that has a white background (for example), you may have to change the background color from (Musicxray.bgcolor = "none") to (Musicxray.bgcolor = "FFFFFF"), as FFFFFF is the color code for white.
What should I track in the Worldwide Mentions module?
- Whatever keywords you choose to track will be displayed in the module. If the name of your song is highly unusual (“fried purple ducks”), you can use the name of your song. However, if the name of your song is commonplace (“my love”), you may want to do something like this (“my love” + “the name of your band”). Using the plus (+) sign to join terms will make your tracking seem more relevant to the reviewers of your trends.
