Full Bio
Jay Frank is currently the SVP of Music Strategy for CMT, a division of MTV Networks. At CMT, he oversees the implementation of music across all platforms, including TV, web, mobile and VOD. The new synergy he is developing is changing the face of country music as he identifies future country hits through active monitoring of all platforms. This has lead to increased TV ratings, online video views, and record setting metrics for the 2008 CMT Music Awards.
Jay Frank has also managed music programming, along with artist and label relations for Yahoo! Music, formerly known as LAUNCH. From 2001 until 2007, Frank grew the audience tenfold to approximately 25 million people. It was widely acknowledged as the largest site of streaming music video, having played nearly 4 billion music videos in 2005. He also oversaw radio programming, which was consistently rated #1 by radio monitoring service Arbitron, with a listenership greater than any single radio station in the US. His ability to find hits early also led to Yahoo! Music becoming instrumental in breaking many acts in their early stages including My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, Mike Jones, Chris Brown, James Blunt, amongst others. This ability has also led Yahoo! Music to be a leading indicator of the future success for an artist.
Jay is a constant fixture at music industry conferences, often called upon as an expert on Digital Music programming. He has been featured on panels throughout the world such as South by Southwest, MIDEM, Billboard Radio Monitor, DemExpo, MusExpo, Music&Media (Finland), Jupiter Plug. In, Canadian Music Week, R&R, Winter Music Conference, CMJ and several others. He is also regularly called to lend his expertise to press stories with most major media outlets, including CNN, Entertainment Weekly, USA Today, Rolling Stone, The Washington Post, Billboard, Wired, and many more.
Jay has also been senior music director at The Box Music Network, managing all daily music activity on the music video network, coordinated programming efforts that doubled Nielsen ratings during his tenure and created programming that resulted in the network’s first Emmy award. He has also acted as marketing and A&R for Ignition Records, managed a live music venue, programmed broadcast radio stations and created two local music video shows. Future Hit.DNA is his first book.
