Legend Group Records President/CEO: Houston Curtis
Former MTV Network executive and creator of numerous multi-million dollar entertainment brands, Houston Curtis has been called "a Visionary" and "trail-blazer" by his peers. Mr. Curtis moved to Los Angeles at the age of 18 to attend the Grove School of Music. Soon after graduating, his band was signed to a development deal with Warner Bros Records by Sr. VP of Warner Bros., Fern Cranston. At 21 Curtis began playing guitar as a session player on a show from Legendary Variety producer Bob Banner, It’s Showtime At The Apollo, which led him into the television business. He began producing syndicated TV series by the age of 24 under talk show czar Burt Dubrow and acclaimed Exec Producer Darlene Hayes. In 1998, Curtis was selected by former MTV Networks President Brian Graden to help create an entirely new Music Development Department with then Sr. VP Lois Curren at MTV. This move would usher in a new age of programming for the Network.
From 1999 to 2008 Curtis created two of the industries most successful home entertainment labels where he produced, acquired and distributed over 100 successful releases for worldwide retail distribution, PPV and broadcast licensing.
Curtis has also created and executive produced several TV series and specials and has produced dozens of independent feature films including the multi-million dollar home video franchise,The Best of Backyard Wrestling. In 2012 Curtis sold Cheech and Chong's Animated Movie to FOX after procuring the rights to comedy duo's classic platinum selling albums. In 2013 Curtis joined forces with Chuck Banner and acquired the rights to the largest independently owned Musical Variety TV library in the industry. He most recently formed Legend Group Studios, Hollywood Direct and Legend Group Records where Curtis plans to put his years of experience and passion to work in an effort to build one the entertainment industries most successful new studios delivering content for the TV, Film, New Media and Music arenas. Specifically on the music side, Curtis has most recently discovered, developed and signed two acts that will emerge as LGR's first new talent releases. A Phenom, Country artist named John Spicer, (wwwJohnSpicerMusic.com) and a Heavy Metal act that wears Bag's over their heads called FUNGONEWRONG, (www.FunGoneWrong.com). Curtis recently produced and directed an upcoming special starring Merle Haggard discussing 50 years of Country music Legends from the Jimmy Dean Show, (a series being restored by Curtis' Legend Group Studios shingle, (with partners Chuck Banner, Ben Caswell and Chuck Speed) and releasing newly remastered music via Legend Group Records.
