Only You by Bochan
About the artist
is passionately sowing the seeds of a Neo-Cambodian musical breakout movement. In collaboration with talented pianist/producer Arlen Hart, Bochan bridges the gap between the East and the West with her uniquely soulfully sweet and sultry indie pop sound. She draws from both her Oakland, California urban environment and Cambodian upbringing to create this fresh intersection of worlds.
Bochan grew up singing for her father's bands in the Cambodian American music circuit. That journey is alive today in the music, which has moved from rock roots to its current inception. Stepping out from the traditional style, she looks to enter a new musical age. Her first single and video, “Desires” showed that her music is able to reach the pop realm while maintaining artistic integrity. Her current release “Chnam Oun 16” (which translates to “I am 16”) featuring emcee Raashan Ahmad of the Crown City Rockers is a remake of a Cambodian rock anthem about a young woman coming of age. The new arrangement of the song retains some textures and tones of the original Farfisa organ sounds, while the lyrics are alternately sung in Khmer (Cambodian), and English. The “Chnam Oun 16” package boast 7 remixes and another original titled “The Music”. Both singles are currently available on iTunes.
The official music video for "Chnam Oun 16" along with her solo LP album "Full Monday Moon" is scheduled to be released this Spring 2011 on iTunes, Amazon, etc. Dubbed by the Cambodian Alliance for the Arts as “America’s first Cambodian American female solo artist,” Bochan is the first Cambodian American female artist to release a solo album of original works into the iTunes catalog. The album explores every genre of music from funk to dub to electronic to jazz, without ever leaving behind her Cambodian roots. Her blending of tradition and innovation makes "Full Monday Moon," a clear choice for something new to love in 2011.
