Award-winning composer S. Pena Young composes mind-numbing electroacoustic works heard in Asia, North America, Australia, and Europe. Young's music has been heard in film festivals, radio, electronic dance clubs, random boom boxes in France, and as not-so-pleasant background music. Multimedia works have been performed at venues like the Beijing Conservatory, the International Computer Music Conference, Miramax's Project Greenlight, the Athena Festival, the New York International Independent Film Festival, Holland Animation Film Festival, TEDxBuffalo, Art Basil Miami, Turkey's Cinema for Peace, and Pulsefield International Exhibition of Sound Art. The American Music Center awarded Young a CAP grant for World Order #5, and in 2010 the Millikin University Women's Chorus and Percussion Ensemble premiered Young's multimedia oratorio "Creation."
In addition to work in art and commercial music, Young is a sought-after expert on music technology, social media, online collaboration, marketing, and contemporary music, recently giving a TED Talk at TEDxBuffalo on the Arts and Social Media. Young's work has been called "Wagner 2.0", "marvelously abstract", "EPIC" and "groundbreaking" by critics. Her work explores the integration of music technology and science fiction with cutting edge works like the animated Libertaria: The Virtual Opera, the award-winning multimedia Creation Oratorio, and the recent Futurist Music Anthology, a two album set covering over a decade of experimental music. Young enjoys writing both commercial and film music, like the soundtrack for the award-winning short Monica, by director Rob Cabrera.
Young has written for the Kapralova Society Journal, Yahoo!, Percussive Notes, Panpipes, the IAWM Music Journal, the SEAMUS Music Journal, and various fine arts websites.
After several years on MusicXray, Young has helped over 100 musicians reach the next level of greatness. Young used Music Xray to find talented indie superstar Matt Meadows for her critically acclaimed "groundbreaking" opera Libertaria: The Virtual Opera, an exciting animated electronica opera.
