Written specifically for a school for K-12 in Singapore based on these instructions:

A school song needed to communicate its Mission and Vision clearly to the students.

The students’ age range is between 6-18 year old. The lyrics should be kept simple with the use of basic words to deliver the school’s main message. Song should be easy to learn and sing.

There should be a gradual increase tempo of the song. An approximate 2 minutes length would be sufficient without long pauses (i.e. lyrical parts should be in a continuous mode – short music pauses are ok)

The name of the school is ‘Excelsior’. Although the core values are stated below under ‘special requirements’ category, you need not input them inside the lyrics. It is basically to give you an idea of the school’s direction.

Most importantly the lyrical school song should revolve around the school’s Mission and Vision.

Lyrics

Excelsior School Anthem
By Bruce Bergh

Like a family you will always be
A part of my thinking and heart
As I walk through life I will shine your light
Ever mindful of my humble start
Although I’m unique I will always seek
Respect for all those I meet
Harmony with everyone
Will make my life complete

Excelsior, forever more
Let your standards prevail
Throughout the world, throughout my life
Compassion will not fail

With an open mind I know I will find
Knowledge throughout all my years
Whether far or near I will always hear
The sound of your voice in my ears
As I live my life I will always strive
To be all that I can be
Hail to thee Excelsior!
Thanks for shaping me

Excelsior, forever more
Let your wisdom ring true
Throughout the world, throughout my life
Your standards I’ll pursue
Throughout the world, I’ll live my life
A testament to you!
