The song was a collaboration of three artists. The music for Cruel was written and composed by Quincy Kane Morris, and Deb Wattes wrote the lyrics and chord progression, Jamie McPherson performed the Saxophone Solo. The song itself was written to reflect the story of a video where the actor had experienced betrayal in a relationship, realizing she deserved more than what this man was offering and choosing to move on to better things.

Lyrics

You caused me so much pain
With all your childish games
Don't come around and expect me
to change plans with my friends

I won't change my life to suit you anymore
and I won't change my mind
I'm not like before
I won't put up with you
yelling outside my door
The girl you once knew
Doesn't live here anymore
You broke my heart in two
Well how could you be so Cruel

How could you lie to my face
What did I ever do to deserve all this pain
Now, well I've learned to pave
My own way

I won't change my life to suit you anymore
and I won't change my mind
I'm not like before
I won't put up with you
yelling outside my door
The girl you once knew
Doesn't live here anymore
You broke my heart in two
Well how could you be so Cruel

Sax Solo

Oooh, I won't change my life to suit you anymore
and I won't change my mind
I'm not like before
I won't put up with you
yelling outside my door
The girl you once knew
Doesn't live here anymore
You broke my heart in two
Well how could you be so Cruel

Tell me how, how could you be so Cruel
