Formal Education: BA Composition- Berklee College Of Music 1975- Boston Massachusetts
Jack started traveling in 1977 as a performer, his travels took him around the word.
Jack O'Neil worked to establish the Jazz Festival on the Green in New Haven Conn. and set up the Jazz series at The Winter Garden, Battery park, NY. with artists, Betty Carter, McCoy Tyner, John Scofield, Max Roach, and others... through Affiliate Artists with the National Endowment of the Arts. He also established the Lila Wallace Jazz Presenter Program- helping artists in all genres (dance, visual arts, and music) with corporate sponsorships to perform around the US.
Jack signed on to a World Music label that became Ellipsis Arts, in 1990. He put together the team of Larry Blumenfeld, Don Lucoff, Brooke Wenz, Rob Trumbley, and Gil Bouncy. The first two releases on Ellipsis Arts were Global Meditations and Global Celebrations both were 4CD boxed sets with music from around the world. In1992 Global Meditations became the #1 Billboard World Music Title of The Year and Global Celebrations was # 3 World Music Title of The Year. While these titles were enjoying their popularity, during MIDEN in Canes, France he was approached by Julian Burger, who was at the time consulting with The United Nations Center for Human Rights as well as working with The United Nations Working Group on Indigenous Peoples- inviting Jack to The United Nations in Geneva to help produce a project that became "Voices Of Forgotten Worlds" a two CD boxed set with a 96 page book of "Traditioanl Music of Indigenous People."
In 1995 Jack O'Neil started Blue Jackel Entertainment- producing, recording, and presenting artists from around the world. Blue Jackel Entertainment is currently distributed by EMI in the US.Blue Jackel Entertainment and their artists have received 11 Grammy Nominations winning 3 Grammy's. It has won the European World Music title of the year twice with Marlui Miranda and Cuba: I am Time.
Jack O'Neils extensive time spent in Brazil, Puerto Rico and Cuba- performing, studying and learning the similarities and differences in their rhythms, harmonies, and all facets of the culture's music and how it relates to music from the US, Africa and Europe. Jack also has vast studio experience with musicians from around the world, organizing the musicians and materials for recording, producing, mixing, sequencing and mastering CD's.
Currently Jack teaches at Colleges and universities in the New York area: The Music business, music Theory, Composition and Ensembles. Since 2009 he is a panelist on The Huntington Arts Council
