As the Assistant Arts Editor at the state’s largest daily newspaper, Mayfield is responsible for writing and editing entertainment stories for the paper’s weekly arts magazine and The Sunday Journal. The film industry in New Mexico has seen growth that is unprecedented in the state's history and Mayfield covers this growing industry as a weekly columnist and beat reporter for the Journal. Mayfield also appears on KOAT TV, the local ABC affiliate’s highly-rated morning show to report on entertainment events in the state. Mayfield is a versatile reporter who also covers boxing for the sports section, breaking news stories for various desks, and writes award-winning features. Mayfield recently worked to re-establish the newspaper’s Web presence with a new, and more engaging, dedicated entertainment Web site.
Hosts, The Doo-Wop Stop, Real Oldies 1600 AM
Mayfield is the host of a specialty doo-wop show on Albuquerque’s only oldies radio station, Real Oldies 1600 AM. As host, Mayfield is responsible for voice tracking the show, developing show ideas and programming a dynamic doo-wop only radio show weekly. Mayfield also assists with writing ad copy and voicing commercials for the independent Vanguard media group in Albuquerque.
Business Reporter and Photographer, The Albuquerque Tribune, Albuquerque New Mexico, 1999-2004
As a business reporter, Mayfield covered aviation, retail, minority enterprise, and breaking business news, as well as edited The Tribune’s daily business pages. In the small-business section of The Tribune’s Albuquerque Business tab, Mayfield wrote two weekly columns, one a weekly small-business profile, and the other called 10 Things to Know, which was a compilation of interesting factoids about local businesses. As a photographer, Mayfield’s pictures complemented his own stories and other reporters. Mayfield also covered boxing for The Tribune’s sports section.
