Jim started Minty Fresh in 1993 as a US-based record label and music publisher signing exceptional new music from around the world, determining the likely audience for that music, and then intelligently marketing to them, offering exposure through retail channels and top-notch music and sync placement. Minty Fresh is about enriching life experiences with sound.
Minty Fresh signings include The Cardigans, Veruca Salt, Liz Phair (7") and many others, including current MTV faves Ezra Furman&the Harpoons, Hushpuppies- recently featured in Activision’s game ‘Guitar Hero World Tour’, Prototypes, placed in an iPod TV commercial, Amsterdam’s Alamo Racetrack, heard on the television series Grey’s Anatomy, and Jakarta’s White Shoes & the Couples Company, recently profiled in TIME magazine. Previously, Jim was A&R Director at BMG International where he signed Cowboy Junkies. As an A&R rep at Geffen he worked with the Waterboys, 10,000 Maniacs, and created the ABC TV series 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch' music compilation.
His Grammy-nominated children’s label, Mini-Fresh, features music he co-produced for children and young families. In addition he conceived and directed animation featured on Nickelodeon and composed a theme song for the nationally syndicated PBS show Word World.

I run Minty Fresh Inc., a record company and music publisher. Before that, I was a major label A&R executive. I am about finding great songs and outstanding new talent. I work with successful bands in a variety of genres: indie, rock, pop-rock, alternative, adult alternative, folk, pop, electronic, children's music, and more. Not an expert in hip-hop or classical though.
I seek exceptional songs and artists for diverse exposure opportunities: music placement & sync licensing in film/television/commercials (US and abroad) and inclusion in a mobile device app featuring top new music. Certain submissions may be considered for our label, but I don't advise sending if this is your sole objective. I will listen to and consider every song submitted to me.
For the additional fee, I would be happy to offer you a critique and professional feedback on your song and your career objectives. I will focus on composition, arrangement, production, and performance. I am also available for a career critique that identifies your creative strengths while considering how they may be adapted and developed to best fit into the music marketplace.
I have mentored successful bands and artists through the entire creative process - from demo and mix evaluations, producer selection, and arrangement ideas, to evaluating press kits, to advising on broad career issues. I can offer guidance in structuring your career with a step-by-step process that is economical, effective, and uses current music marketing principles.
