Hailing from a family of musicians, it is no surprise that when he received his first guitar, Stephen taught himself to play. Not longer after, he began writing music and performing live with his band Oedipus in clubs all over Southern California. Thereafter, while touring the US, Stephen received a real-world education as an artist and performer.
Building upon his Bachelor’s Degree in Media and Literature from UCSD, Stephen has worked over the past five years as a paralegal for a pair of major music industry law firms. One such firm specializes in artist representation, publishing and royalty administration, while the other specializes in publishing catalog acquisitions. This experience educated Stephen on the methods by which the business and creative sides of the music industry mesh. Under the tutelage of a number of music industry legal gurus at these firms, Stephen has widened his knowledge of the music business specifically in the areas of publishing, copyright and licensing. Following in the footsteps of his mentor, Stephen is in the process of furthering his education by attaining his legal degree.
Fusing that knowledge with all that an artist and performer learns on the creative side of things, Stephen has become a reliable source in the development of creative material and the methodology by which art filters into the business sector. It was not long before Atrium Music sought Stephen to head its business affairs wing because of his ability to approach the business side of music as an artist and conversely to view the musical side of things as a businessman all while keeping the perspective that ideally the two worlds can positively move forward together. By meshing the two countering perspectives, Stephen continues to help Atrium foster an artist-friendly aura all while helping drive the company to the heights it seeks to reach.
