I am all about raising the profile of experimental and unusual forms of music.
But with great experimentation there comes great noise and awfulness as even some of the most noteworthy acts of the past have proven - so the trick is to harness the best bits found whilst experimenting and bring them into a user-friendly context, one that people can relate to.
My motivation is Making Things Happen.
Whether that is getting people together to record albums, holding events, booking artists into venues, reviewing and critiquing far-out types of music, Making Things Happen is an integral part of what stimulates the people to have a good time in spite of hardships and inspires them to have a go themselves. While the music industry sheds its skin all around us the possibilities for new music seem now much wider than ever before. It is a time for great variety and great originality to raise their heads up high and be noticed in harsh contrast with the mainstream's increasingly obvious descent into self-parody, or maybe a time for the mainstream to choose between diversifying or lapsing into irrelevancy as it atrophies in TV World.
My role is to find original and interesting artists and encourage them to work in user-friendly ways, get them collaborating and inspire them to make something that pushes the boundaries and reaches outside of the ordinary ways, whilst still being pleasant to listen to.
