He has a unique approach to recording, being a pioneer of the "bedroom studio" revolution of the 80's, long before EVERYONE had a studio in their bedroom. Saint Etienne's influential "Fox Base Alpha" album was recorded in the bedroom of a council house in Surrey, and was a Mercury Music Prize finalist. An interview noted that " the production cost less than the catering budget of Simply Red's "Stars" album (one of the other finalists) yet had immeasurably greater warmth, wit and honesty".
Recently he has been concentrating on composing music to picture, alongside producing and mixing inspiring music by inspired people wherever he can find them (or they find him), using the power of the internet to enable previously impossible collaborations.
He says, "One of the most enjoyable aspects of production is working with people and getting the best out of them and their ideas. You'll find me friendly, patient, flexible, and ready to go the extra mile to cross the line between workmanlike and wonderful".
