About the artist
Born in Slovakia, 1986, she has been composing since a very early age. Today Vanda is the author of more than 80 songs and their lyrics, having her bookshelves stuffed with home made albums and demos. Composing music has been the strongest passion and number one priority in the life of this young and talented artist.
The first songs started to pour out at the age of 12, followed by her first real stage-life at 15. Performing along with the local band Mercery Street opened the door to the fertile music scene that still holds a firm place in her hometown. After the departure of the band guitar player, Vanda took the opportunity to travel and decided to live in Santa Fe, Argentina, for a while. No matter where she goes, her music is always with her. This led to collaborations with local bands and musicians and consequently to a†couple of gigs in Santa Fe as well as interviews in local radios that also aired her live performance. Her life is basically about music and traveling. Prior to her stay in Argentina she lived a few years in the USA and still plans to travel a lot more in the future.
The first demo Invisible caught attention not only of a†wide range of audiences but also of Slovak media and people from the industry that couldn’t ignore her talent and ambitions. In January 2006 Vanda was breaking the Radio_FM Slovak Gold chart (with only home made records!) where her song Will you catch me was on for 14 weeks, 10 of which it was hitting the top 3 and made it to be the hit no. 1 for more than 5 weeks! Working with great musicians and artists – Peter Slamecka (Gladiator – keys), Michal Cabala (lead singer Alone) and Snovonne contributed greatly to finding the right sound for her songs.
Year 2004 was the year of discovering herself. Although knowing perfectly well that composing and writing her music is definitely the calling she wants pursue in her life, Vanda had the courage to take an unusual step. Along with other musicians she formed a funk – rock band The Red One and became the lead singer. Three and a half years of touring, performing and gaining success with The Red One opened her eyes and broadened her horizons a†lot more than she would have thought at the beginning.
This meant two important things – the passion for performing live, being in contact with the fans and audience and participating in the music business was growing unstoppably and only reassured her in her desire to become a part of the music industry. Based on this, the second important issue arose. The style The Red One was offering collided with her idea of making music and after years of being in the shadow of her own songs based on extraordinary voice, soft piano and catchy melodies she finally managed to loosen her ties with the band and jump (back) into her own career.
The breaking point in taking this final decision was the collaboration offer that came in 2007 from Jontom, an Italian producer, musician and songwriter. Jontom was the trigger she needed that time, the „motivation booster“. With the strong support of her family, fans and close friends, Vanda is now making things possible. Long months of searching for musicians who would be on the same wavelength with her and just as excited about the music she’s making finally gave their fruits and Vanda found the perfect soul mates...at least it looked that way, until the drummer unexpectedly disappeared. Marek (drums) is currently the newest member of the band, joining in April 2009.
Vanda's songs are deeply appreciated for their catchy melodies and lived-through lyrics. Music is the life of this young artist and if there's something you can't really say, just let her sing it for you...
