Additional artist information
Formed in 1997, skin contact grew out of founder Kevin Breidenbach's interest in both electronic music & computers. Early works were influenced heavily by the EBM & industrial dance music of the 90's, as well as other forms of electronic music. Over time, the sound of SC has evolved to include elements of IDM, drum & bass, noise, and rhythmic industrial music to form a unique blend of dark electronics. Recent releases have been well-received by the underground press, being described as “meticulously sculpted”, “expertly engineered”, and “intelligent”. These descriptions are not only flattering, but also a fairly accurate description of SC's studio work, which is indeed unapologetically production heavy.
In contrast, the SC live show is a sort of improvised live remix affair incorporating samples, sequences, synths, and effects in an interactive modular environment, powered by a combination of hardware and software. Though often the performance will incorporate sounds, sequences, and loops from previously recorded tracks, these are manipulated and recombined with each other and new elements in such a way that the end result most often bears very little, if any, resemblance to any existing material. Due to this (and the fact that Kevin often rotates the equipment being used), every show is different.
