Back to California by Jasmine Chadwick
Lyrics
It’s been hard
And lonely here without you
Sometimes I get so busy
Thinking time will make it easy
But time can’t heal
This pain I feel
Only time can mirror
this love that’s here in your words
When you asked me if I was coming home to stay
You were asking me please don’t go away
But I’m going back, back to California
I’m going back, back to California
You would cry
So happy to have me home
And nothing really measures
All that you wrote me in your letters
Now here I sink
And swim again
These years have been
So hard to spend apart
When you asked me if I was coming home to stay
You were asking me please don’t go away
But I’m going back, back to California
I’m going back, back to California
Hazel eyes and a happy smile
Could never be mean to you
If we could chase away the days
We memories that could replace
Your tears that fell
My tears that fall
I’d be right there
And that is all
When you asked me if I was coming home to stay
You were asking me please don’t go away
But I’m going back, back to California
I’m going back, back to California
Only time can mirror
The love that’s here in your words...

About the artist
This Is Who I Am is the debut solo CD from singer-songwriter Jasmine Chadwick. The response to the 2010 release was immediate and led to Jasmine being chosen as an opening act for multi-platinum Grammy award winning artist Sarah McLachlan on the 2010 Lilith Tour. Jasmine's music is a throwback to confessional singers such as Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon and Alanis Morissette. Her heartfelt lyrics explore heartbreaking yet hopeful observations about the world and a piercing examination of her own life experiences. The raw honesty of her sound coupled with her rapidly growing fan base resulted in Jasmine being awarded L.A. Rock City's "Best Folk-Rock Artist" award.
Born with a passion to sing and to express herself, Jasmine was raised in a musical family on an island in rural Canada and began performing when she was a young girl. The first stage Jasmine performed on was the rocky bluff side by her family home where she would sing for the dock workers in the harbor below on their lunch hour.
Growing up, Jasmine absorbed a variety of influences including James Taylor, Sheryl Crow, Neil Young, Faith Hill, The Dixie Chicks and Fleetwood Mac. After years of interpreting other songwriters material, Jasmine worked to transfer her own raw emotions from poetry into lyrics and began her songwriting career with the belief that "music is the universal language of the heart."
Jasmine formed a band, recorded demos and played around the Vancouver area before packing her bags and acoustic guitar and heading for the city of angels to pursue her dream.
In Los Angeles, Jasmine was a fresh new voice on the music scene performing at coffeehouses and open mic nights. The road was far from being easy but this period of struggle forged her as a woman and helped her realize what she wanted to say as an artist. During this time she also began writing songs with Nashville Grammy nominated songwriter Jan Buckingham and sought out musicians who helped her to grow musically. Jasmine won the hearts of a loyal Los Angeles fan base who followed her when she took the stage at many of Southern California and surrounding state top venues including The Viper Room, Whisky A Go-Go and The House Of Blues.
After encouragement from fans, musicians and industry insiders, Jasmine set out to record This Is Who I Am.
For This Is Who I Am Jasmine assembled a Who's Who of the music world as her collaborators including renowned recording engineer Bill Malina (Alanis Morissette, Christina Aguilera), guitarist Shane Fontayne (Bruce Springsteen, Sting), drummer Blair Sinta (Annie Lennox, Melissa Etheridge), bassist Sean Hurley (Colbie Caillat, John Mayer), keyboardist Mike Farrell (Vanessa Carlton, Macy Gray) and four time Grammy winning mixer Manny Marroquin (Alicia Keys, Katy Perry). The album was recorded at different studios around Los Angeles and mastered by Grammy nominee Dave Kutch at the Mastering Palace in New York City.
The first five tracks of the EP are produced, written and arranged by Jasmine and the sixth is a fun bonus track remake of Al Green's classic "Let's Stay Together." Jasmine is thrilled to be sharing her autobiographical CD with fans and looks forward to playing the songs live during an intimate club tour to be announced shortly.
