Blast off/ Hey yo check it/ I keep so Sunday morning smokin' in sunny weather/ We're kickin' it/ Front Room Productions, ain't nothin' better/ We keep it tight, like leather that got wet/ I'm sittin' up in that front seat/ These rain drops as I reflect/ On this lifetime that y'all soon will not forget/ I went from walkin' down dirt roads into these rhymes that I spit/ The sand's between my toes and I can feel it in my bones/ It's Carolina home-grown/ On the island is where we roam/ Well I woke up this mornin' writin' this song/ Felt the world turn and walked out on my lawn/ And it feels all good and all great/ Livin' in this world that I create/ So I make it happy, sun shinin' bright/ And I make sure the days are as sweet as the nights/ It all fits together, it's feelin' right/ So I'ma ride this thing with all my might/ 'Cause we all play a part in the circle of life/ Bleeding from a similar vein/ Said ashes to dust but my energy stays/ As long as you remember my name/ (CHORUS) We will remain/ We will remain/ We will remain/ We will remain/ We will remain/ We will remain/ While y'all poppin' them pills to get high/ I'm poppin' mine to stay alive/ I pop them steroids, dude/ That's East West and Kung Fu/ I've been gettin' swole liftin' on that prednizone tip/ Been sick since '96, y'all boys ain't even heard of it/ I've been diagnosed but that's okay because my throat ain't/ I've been spittin' from my lung and to my tongue, it ain't/ Anything that I ain't never been known to do/ From the branches to the roots through the wind and to the booth/ Well I'm connected to the ground that's up under me/ And I stay foamin' at the mouth when the mic is in front of me/ But I'm so glad just to speak my voice/ 'Cause this is my life, this is my choice/ If you want it you can have it, take an open look/ 'Cause my life is freestyles, it's an open book/ You can read it if you want, pass it up if you like/ But I'ma keep spreadin' my light/ 'Cause we all play a part in the circle of life/ Bleeding from a similar vein/ Said ashes to dust but my energy stays/ As long as you remember our names/ (CHORUS) We will remain/ We will remain/ We will remain/ We will remain/ We will remain/ We will remain/ Get funky one time /(beatbox)/ Immortal when the ink leaks up on my sleeve/ The boy cooler than the breeze flowin' fall through spring/ See I'm just rappin' to the rain that's tappin' on my window pain/ Love and pain, baby girl, to me it's all the same/ So I just keep it movin'/ Get this crowd bouncin' up and down/ Ain't hard to do when my boy B puts it down because I/ I got that sound you heard around my town and if you haven't ask about me capital SEIG/ For me it's the heart and the energy/ 'Cause all beautiful things are eventually a memory/ So I write love that never dies/ 'Cause this is my heart and I can't lie/ Will I come back as a drop of rain, born in the sky but to earth I came/ To make my peace with the rain and the wind/ And help another start life again/ 'Cause we all play a part in the circle of life/ Bleeding from a similar vein/ Said ashes to dust but my energy stays/ As long as you remember our names/ (CHORUS) We will remain/ We will remain/ We will remain/ We will remain/ We will remain/ We will remain/ Get funky one time
About the artist
Ben Fagan makes "music with a message" that can lift you up or bring you deep. Whatever the mood, poignant lyrics and visceral melodies reach out to move your body and soul. From early on, Fagan’s been a "wordy" guy. His first vocal achievement came at age 3, when he memorized all the lyrics on his brother's Weird Al Yankovic albums. (That's a lot of words!) He spent the following years expanding his repertoire and absorbing the sounds of his favorite icons: Boyz II Men, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Sublime, to name a few…Fast forward to college and beyond ...Freshman year, he spit enough words to win the MTV Campus Invasion Freestyle Contest…Senior year, with Phi Beta Kappa locked down and fronting his rock band on school nights, Fagan was recruited for a well-known reality show...After nailing the grand prize, he returned to his musical pursuits.
Based in Charleston, SC, Fagan is a frontman who has been described as a "consummate performer." His first band (the Plainfield Project) drew a following that packed local and regional venues. Its ska/reggae-influenced rock earned heavy rotation on Charleston adult contemporary radio. Fagan wrote or co-wrote all of the songs on the band’s collection of sun-drenched grooves, ranging from trippy to soulful.
Ever-evolving and committed to keep it fresh, Fagan formed his Holy City Hooligans band in early 2011. This time, his muse inspired a fusion of island vibes, urban funk, and hip pop. Much in the style of Sublime and OAR, the Hooligans mix a blend of genres into a cohesive sound. "I've tried straight rock and pop but nothing makes sense to me like funky, soulful grooves,” says Fagan. “I'm blending hip-hop beats with the chill vibes and positive message of reggae and funk to create a dance-able, feel-good experience.” The band released its debut cd, "The Freestyle Sessions 1," in late May 2011. Showcasing Fagan's powerful but ever-smooth vocals and colorful bass riffs, the album also features some of Charleston's favorite talents: Righchus (voted best hip-hop artist, 2 years), members from the Plainfield Project (voted best local band, 3 years), and Fagan Brothers (Ben and his brother/mentor, Chris Fagan).
Ben Fagan & the Holy City Hooligans love what they do and it's contagious. Growing crowds of new and existing fans are shakin' to the funky chops, swayin' to the reggae grooves, and bouncin' to the hip-hop beats. Surprise and delight ensue, when these unassuming but spunky twenty-somethings "crush it" for their audience with the polish of a seasoned act. Gaining momentum on the east coast, with street-smart savvy and an irrepressible gift for getting the party started, the Hooligans are poised to break onto the national scene.
